If you haven't already heard, Listel Vancouver (O'Doul's) will be the official hotel sponsor this year, which makes more sense than previous hotels as O'Doul's already presents top Vancouver jazz players 7 nights a week. Here's the press release from O'Doul's:
ROBSON STREET - Vancouver's "most artful hotel*" is more artful than ever! As the newly appointed hotel sponsor for the du Maurier Vancouver International Jazz Festival the Listel Vancouver will play host to some of the world's most exciting jazz performers, the names of whom will be revealed on April 30th by Coastal Jazz & Blues, producers of the Festival.
The Vancouver International Jazz Festival has just announced a three year agreement with its new hotel sponsor, Listel Vancouver. "We are very excited to have Listel Vancouver on board," says Robert Kerr, Executive Director of Coastal Jazz & Blues Society. "These are definitely the hippest digs in town especially since some of the best straight ahead jazz in the city is played downstairs at O'Doul's every night of the year!"
"This is a great fit for us," says Jim Mockford, Listel's General Manager. "We've been featuring live jazz in O'Doul's Restaurant & Bar since 1996 - seven nights a week for the last two years - and have participated as a venue in the Festival since 1997. We are very committed to the vibrant Vancouver jazz scene and saw this sponsorship as a way to further that commitment."
O'Doul's will also play host to late night jam sessions from 11:30 pm to 1:30 am every night of the Festival. Watch for more details April 30th!
The Festival. This year's festival features over 1700 musicians from Canada and around the world performing at over 40 venues including major theatres, nightclubs and outdoor stages. There are many free events including a two-day street festival held in Gastown on opening weekend (June 21-22), a free two-day indoor/outdoor extravaganza at the Roundhouse/du Maurier Stage at David Lam Park on closing weekend (June 28-29), and daily free outdoor performances at the du Maurier stage at the Vancouver Art Gallery plaza (June 24-29).
Over 430,000 people attended the Jazz Festival in 2002 easily making it Vancouver's biggest cultural event of the year.
The Hotel. Dubbed "A cultural tourist's dream*" this 129 room boutique hotel boasts a perfect location on the city's most eclectic shopping and dining street. The Listel Vancouver also has a reputation for creative partnerships with some of the city's most significant cultural organizations, including the Buschlen Mowatt Gallery and the Museum of Anthropology. The hotel is also home to O'Doul's Restaurant & Bar where an award-winning wine list (Wine Spectator 1997-2002 "Award of Excellence") is rivaled only by a remarkable menu and some of the hottest live jazz in the city - every night of the week.
