Vancouver International Jazz Festival 2009 Reviews

The (rave) reviews are starting to trickle in:

http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=33680

and

http://www.popmatters.com/pm/feature...jazz-festival/

Unfortunately JazzTimes and Coda were both on 'hiatus' during this year's jazz fest so their usual coverage was definitely missed.

Hopefully they'll be around for the 25th Anniversary Festival next year.

I don't know about you guys but writing like this:

Quote:
Perhaps because of the subject matter of his workshop and the all-Monk concert of the evening before, Schlippenbach was not his usual incendiary self. Instead, his chord voicings were on the mystical side and he was delicate without sacrificing substance and dense without forfeiting cohesion.
Tires me out pretty quickly.

Think how exhausting it must have been to write it! .. N

Eschew it well, like 32 times, before swallowing the mystical content and without sacrificing substance and cohesion and be sure to absorb the esoteric contents of the implied polyrhythms contained herein. You dig?

Perhaps the ebullient proponent is in need of some tutelage:
