Len Dobbin RIP.

I just heard that the great voice of Jazz in Montreal for so many years has passed away. Len Dobbin lived and loved the music. He'll be sorely missed by everyone who knew and listened to him. No details yet as to cause or funeral arrangements. RIP Mr. Dobbin.

Confirmed by a Quebec blog in French quoting a member of his party at the Upstairs Club:

Also reported in this morning's Montreal Gazette:

Here's a link to his website for those who aren't familiar with his work and life-long passion and for those who are:

A very sad day, jazz has lost a good friend ... N

Sad news.

I used to see Len almost every week at some point when I lived in Montreal and always enjoyed talking with him.

He'll be missed.

Len

I met Len last year at Upstairs. He came down to hear my band with Vanessa two nights in a row which was very flattering. I really enjoyed talking with him and hanging out with him. His whole life was jazz. I was looking forward to seeing him in October when Im out there with my quintet. You will be missed Len and your spirit will live on.

As mentioned here an archive of Dobbin's weekly CKUT (Montreal) jazz show, Dobbin's Den, can be accessed here.

Tomorrow's edition (Sunday July 12) of Dobbin's Den will be a special commemorative broadcast hosted by Mike Chamberlain and including members of Montreal's jazz community paying tribute to Len Dobbin.

Show starts at 11am, that's 8am Vancouver time, and can be heard online by going to http://www.ckut.ca/listen.php
