Greetings everyone!

My name's David, I play drums for the local blues/funk/rock group Electric Blues Euphoria. I just wanted to introduce myself and my band, of course :)

We're a 3-piece Vancouver-based band that formed in 1995. While not a traditional "jazz" group, our music is primarily guitar-driven, jam-based and features a mix of both vocal and instrumental tunes with plenty of live improvisation and solos. Hendrix (especially Band of Gypsys) and Stevie Ray Vaughan are a major influence on our sound, as well as artists such as Blues Traveller, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Wide Mouth Mason, and yes, even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

We will be performing at The Golden Spike Days Festival July 1st at 12:15pm in Port Moody's Rocky Point Park, and on July 8th at The Roxy in Vancouver at 8pm. Hope to see you there, they're gonna be great shows!

So start up blues site and advertize your band there. This is a site for people intersted in the Vancouver JAZZ scene. If it was vancouvermusic.com, well O.K., but it's not, it's vancouverjazz.com.

I'm sorry you don't have someone like this site's founder and administrator that loves blues so much that he started and upkeeps and site called vancouverblues.com. or that he loves the whole scene and created vancouvermusic.com or canadamusic.com or smokedmeat.com.

He created vancouverjazz.com.

I'm not here to get into an argument, but I might point out that the Vancouver Jazz Festival showcases artists from a variety of genres excluding jazz. There's blues, funk, electronica, world, even some hip-hop as well... so I don't really see what you are getting at that "blues" doesn't belong.

At any rate, looks like I've made the mistake of posting to this board when in reality it should have been at jazzvancouver.com (Coastal Jazz and BLUES Society).

vancouverjazz.com, jazzvancouver.com... similar but apparently oh-so-different. Talk to ya later,

Although jazz is my main musical passion, I like and am interested in many kinds of music, including blues. If I had the time or energy I very well might have started up vancouvermusic.com. Somebody did start a vancouverblues site but it never got off the ground. Only jazz has got the dedicated maniac required for such endeavours.

Although I know what I mean by jazz, I won’t even try to define it for anybody else or for this website. Don’t feel like getting into any fights. I am very open as to calendar submissions and stuff and something has to be really way off base for me to question whether it belongs on this site or not. As a jazz lover I am interested in hearing about other stuff, too.

At any rate, looks like I've made the mistake of posting to this board when in reality it should have been at jazzvancouver.com (Coastal Jazz and BLUES Society). Coastal Jazz & Blues presents very little in the way of blues music (only in the last few years have they started presenting their little blues thing out in Burnaby) and, besides, there's no forum on their site.

As far as I'm concerned, Electric Blues Euphoria is welcome here.

1) Don't let this all shake you Dave, I think both jazz musicians and fans can just be a bit snobby at times.

2) With a diverse population in the forum more thorough discussions can take place.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the replies. I have to admit I was a little taken aback by that first comment I received... guess I stepped on someone's toes a little when it comes to what is considered "jazz". But I suppose I should have known better and expected as much if someone is a jazz purist, as I am sure many are on this board.

So I apologize in advance if the music samples I've put up caused anyone's ears to bleed (althought I certainly doubt it... I am proud to be able to play that kind of jam-based music, similar to how I'm sure many jazz players are proud to be able to play their own versions of jazz)

I think this forum is good avenue for all players involved in the more instrumental and improvisational side of music, especially experimental. Keep an open mind and open ears to what's out there and you'll always find new things to listen to! :)
