The Festival Vancouver is running again in Vancouver this summer. The jazz portion of the show is a little less then in previous years but they are still putting on a few shows.

Clark Terry with the Al Matheson Big Band doing a tribute to Duke Ellington on August 16th.

Also on August 14th at he Commodore, Ernán López-Nussa is playing with his quintet as well as a Cuban Vocal Group called Vocal Sampling.

August 17th at the First Nations Longhouse at 11 AM Oliver Gannon and Miles Hill are playing as part of a guitar series.

Ernán López-Nussa is also playing the Late Night Series at Studio 16 on August 15.

Clark Terry burned last time he came here (3 years ago I think) and I would expect nothing less this year.

Same goes for Ernán - he tore up last year (and I was lucky enough to play a couple of tunes with him at the Commodore, including one of mine - what a rush!).

Al,

Do you known if Ernán is playing at Studio 16 with his Quintet? or is it solo?

Wow...

Vocal Sampling.
Jeez, I have to tell you guys, for those who haven't heard 'em, these are an unbelievably amazing vocal ensemble.
Simply should not be missed.

Yeah - kind of like if Take 6 and Bobby Mcferrin were Cuban. They cover all the Cuban standards with an acapella rhythm section, complete with sung piano, conga, bass, cowbell, horns AND lyrics....

The jazz festival is in less than two weeks. Not much of a buzz on here on the forum.
Anyone excited about checking out any of the music?

Alright Coat, I'll bite...

I'm excited to see Kenny Wheeler with Jon Bently at the Cultch, and Bobby Shew at the Cellar. I'm going to go check out some larger venue's as well but traditionall I haven't enjoyed the concerts there too much. I have a feeling the sound tech will have Wayne Shorter sounding like some grade 6 kid who just picked up the saxophone, but I'll still be there.

The free stuff at the Roundhouse and in Gastown (but especially the Roundhouse) looks great as well.
