An interesting read. Don't get taken in by audiophile scams, the writer says: http://www.ethanwiner.com/audiophoolery.html

Sadly, the arrogance and ignorance of this oft quoted article may prevent many music lovers from realizing the potential of their music (and video) systems. The reality is that a simple power cord change can easily improve even a modest music system and anyone with an open mind can hear the improvement instantly.

The writer is dead wrong in his assertion that only a few paramaters are important in electronics (and of course he happens to know exacly which ones). The actual, provebale, fact is that in a reasonably transparent system EVERYTHING makes a difference; the question is whether the difference is an improvents or not. The quest of the Audiophile is to explore and debate those issues.

Of course there are audio related product that are grossly overpriced (and they often do make a substantial difference), but there are also many that offer real value. The old 80/20 rule applies here; you can get 80% of the sonic improvents of the High End priced stuff for 20% of the cost, if you shop wisely.

Any of several great magazines can lead one in the right direction: the absolute sound; Stereophile and HI-Fi+ are but a few.
Happy listening!
