Fans of Chris Gestrin may want to pick up a copy of the February issue of Downbeat magazine for a review of his new CD, Stillpoint on the Songlines label.
The magazine's reviewer, Greg Buium, gave Stillpoint four stars (out of five), saying it "bristles with action and fresh, absorbing ideas."
Aside from Gestrin, personnel on the recording include Brad Turner, Jon Bentley, Andre Lachance and Dylan van der Schyff, among others.
Can't say I'm familiar with Gestrin's music, but it was nice to see a recording by Vancouver musicians among the CDs reviewed in a magazine like Downbeat -- and to see it get a good rating. Let's hope we see more soon!
