i've looked extensively on the internet for a webpage devoted to a paticular artist or for the scene... is there much improv music going on in the Vancouver area. I'm going to be in the area in March and wanted to get some local free improv/jazz players to share some shows with possibly. if anyone knows any links, people i can contact it would be greatly appreciated!!

Chromatic,
Most of the so called "free" or "improv" players in Vancouver are among the finest in the world. They tend to straddle 2 or 3 different streams of jazz. Drummer Dylan Van Der Scyff does this most prominently I think, playing with trumpeter Brad Turner's quartet as well as numerous free/improv settings with visiting and local musicians. Some other names to watch for are Ron Samworth, Peggy Lee, Brad Turner, Dave Say, Andre LaChance, Kate Hammett Vaughn, Bernie Arai, John Korsrud, Chris Gestrin... there are really a lot of people into this kind of thing in Vancouver, and like I mentioned, just about every name on that list straddles the "line" between "free jazz" and more "straight ahead" projects.
The venue for most of this "kind" of music happens downtown, at a place called 1067. It's the alley entrance off Granville and Helmicken, I believe, and they have a maling list. I don't know how you get on it tho... I was just kind of put there... Hope that helps.
