In response to the thread on Oil Can Harry's, I put together a program featuring the Vancouver Sound Ensemble, at Oil Can Harry's Jazz Room during 1976. The group was comprised of Bruce Freedman, tenor and soprano saxes; Paul Plimley, piano; John Giordano, bass; Gregg Simpson, drums.

There's also a cut recorded at the Legion on 4th Ave. at Trafalgar from that summer which was produced by the late Peter Choquette and the Pan Pacific Society. This may have been just before Brian Nation started the Vancouver Jazz Society in that space. I hope Brian can clarify this.

I presented the VSE at the Western Front in Sept 1976. When I took over the Trafalgar space in March 1977 it had been shut down for some time. Before that it had been used as venue but for what I can't remember. I think it was called "Heritage Hall" or something like that.

Thanks for clarifying those dates, Brian. I had forgotten the Western Front gig. The Heritage Hall was definitely the old name of the hall when we played there.

The Oil Can Harry and Heritage Hall tapes are actually airing next week, not this one after all. A little mix up with the uploading procedure.

This week on the show it's "Swing and After" with the Missourians, Fletcher Henderson, Art Tatum, Krupa and others.
