Finally managed to do a feature on the recent Fraser Mac disc and realized that one of the sessions was recorded 45 years ago this week; unfortunately, it's not clear from the notes which tunes were recorded at which session. Played half the disc this week and the other half will be on next week with some related material - the Ray Norris/Chris Gage is from 1951 and features Fraser on clarinet.

Had an incredible number of phone calls this week, quite a few people hadn't heard the recently discovered Bird & Diz at Town Hall 1945 and wanted to know where to get it (I think it's distributed by Fusion); Bobby McFerrin is in town next week as part of Festival Vancouver. Lots of tasty stuff. Cheers and keep groovin'....

As it turns out, the show is pre-empted this week for building maintenance (don't ask) and the station is rebroadcasting last week's show. So the playlist above is what you'll hear if you tune into tomorrow's show - the first (and last?) time I've had the playlist posted before the show!

So I'll get the second half of the Fraser disc on next week and everything else I planned to do tomorrow (probably won't play as much Bobby McFerrin though). Keep groovin' ... N

You have to read more carefully, Nou! It says, "Tracks 1-6 broadcast January 31, 1963. Tracks 7-11 broadcast July 26, 1962." It's on the inside back page.

Sorry about that, I see it now! (I guess I was transported by the music!)

I tried tuning into the rebroadcast last week but I think they had some technical difficulties while the building work was going on but it was a little intermittent.

If you're interested in downloading the show, here are the links:

Starts about 8 minutes into the first file, and the last file misses the last 8 minutes or so. (The file times don't match up with the show boundaries.) They've just reorganized the archives into months and it looks like they might hang around for a while.

This Friday, I'll be playing the rest of the Fraser McPherson Our Blues disc, some Jeanette Lindstrom, some Sal Mosca (who just passed away this week), Roger Baird's Black & White trio (with Miles Black and Scott White), some Winard Harper who's coming to the Cellar etc etc.

Suggestions and requests always welcome ... N
