woowho! it was fun and the playing was great. thanks coastal! for those who missed it, kurt played a number of his interesting compositions from the past along with some that i haven't heard before.. i find his compositions fascinating and i really like the use of dynamics and odd time signatures, along with motifs that get held for longer periods of time during the tunes..
don bryon was doing a tribute to jr. walker but he did pull out his clarinet which is mostly how i know his music... the playing was top notch and the music was really a nice contrast to kurts.. great double bill and was worth the trip from nanaimo, where a few others had likewise made the jaunt from.

Please -- Does anyone know the name of the drummer who played with Rosenwinkel? I didn't catch it and it's marked "TBA" in the program.
Thanks!

i heard that was the first show he did with kurts group too.. don't know if that is true, but as a drummer myself i was really impressed with his playing and sensitivity to the music.

That's too bad, it's certainly not obvious from the website, even reading in French!

Iteresting having Rosenwinkle pared up with Don Byron. It was a little awkward having so many people filtering out for DB's half. I was not exactly thrilled to be listening to something like DB's group right after listening to KW. But hey, DB is pretty good and if I was that good I would hope people would pay their respects for the artist by at least just hangin' out. Some people may have had other gigs to go to I guess, but for the most part I think it would have been more classy to stick it out and show some support. He, DB, deffinately knew what was happening. After about the third song, after about 40 people or more had left, he said " OK now we're going to get serious". Personally I felt bad for the guy. By the way the band really picked it up and those fans that were left by the end of the show were not only standing but dancing as well. Not that I'm totally into it but the guy has spirit.
