This show was a follow up to the talk I gave at the Vancouver Public Library the evening before; this year was Jazz Legends focusing on Fathead Newman, Misha Mengelberg and Sonny Rollins so they each got their fair share. As I do every year, the first festival show concentrates on the artists appearing in the first week and really gets me in the mood - as if I needed it! I'll give a copy of the Eugene Chadbourne recording to the first person who can name the artists who recorded all the songs - that was one show I regret missing but I couldn't pass on Sonny ... N

Second fest show concentrates on artists from the last weekend of the jazz festival. Also ran into Jared Burrows at Kurt Rosenwinkel/Don Byron and invited him to drop by and chat about the South Delta Jazz Fest that was also on that weekend. A crazy day overall, my car broke down unexpectedly that morning and threw my whole day off.

Now that I'm caught up on my sleep, I'm still hoping to post a jazz fest diary at some point (I actually made it out every night this year!) but I'll have to find a whole evening to do it and those are in short supply.

I am planning to feature the new Fraser MacPherson disc (finally!) this Friday along with a bunch of other recent acquisitions that I haven't gotten around to and some other fun stuff. Suggestions and requests always welcome ... N
