Does anybody have any gossip or info about the money from the Glass Slipper benefits? Is there going to be another creative music venue in Vancouver?

Hi Graham.
Well, I HEARD from a couple of different sources that Roger was trying to hook something up in the basement of Deep Cove music. This was in the summer though, and I suspect it was either a rumor or a whimsical notion that Roger had second thoughts about.

Well Graham and Ivan and other interested parties,

Just so the rumour mill doesn't go ballistic, the truth is that Tyler at Deep Cove Music is now managing the Musart Cultural Society.

Over the summer he did a number of concerts in Cates Park. His activities encompass different artistic fields including acting, teaching and performing music. Yes, he did plan to open a live venue in the basement of his shop but was being made to jump through the usual regulatory hoops. At this moment I'm not sure what the disposition of that project is. If it gets off the ground I believe most of the musical activity will be in areas other than jazz and probably at a low sound level due to the neighbours.

I am very happy to have Tyler doing his thing and keeping Musart alive. At such time as money can be found for a new venue, we will then have the option, if beneficial, of bringing the venue under the umbrella of Musart. It is important for Musart to have continuous positive activity so as to continue its great track record.

In the meantime, there are no benefit concerts scheduled as the ones held after the fire were either poorly attended or did not raise much money and it just does not make sense to expend all that energy for nothing. However, if any one among you should know of a finacial "angel" or corporate sponsor looking to go down in local jazz history, just ask them to give me a call.

In the meantime, please call me if you know where I can get a gig!

Cheers,

Roger

Hey Roger, it seems the liquor board is acting up over afew venues such as the jazz cellar and the jupiter cafe about their licences. I wonder if we could get on the liquor board and change the rules from within or is that regulatory body a closed shop

Yeah, I was going to mention that. I think all the musicians and anybody who digs live music should get together and fight that crap. Those restrictions go to way too far IMHO
