The Cellar is thinking about offering a select amount of its shows on the web. The shows would be streamed live over the internet and would be on Pay Per Listen basis. For example, for $10 you would be able to listen to 2 full sets of music live. Once you made your purchase, the link would stay active for a set amount of time. For example 12 hours and you could listen to it later. There are some costs to starting this service up and before we go ahead with it we would like to see if anyone has any feedback as to whether they would a) be into it and would pay for b) not into it c) would like to see video along with audio etc. etc.

There are some costs to start this up and am hoping that it can increase the club revenue therefore being able to pay musicians more. Let me know what you think.

You can email me at cory@cellarjazz.com. Im looking forward to hearing from you.

I think it's a great idea although I'm not sure how often I'd use it. Maybe only during a really expensive and/or sold-out show. Would it still be only ten bucks if it were a big $75 show?

I don't think necessarily that Im expecting people to do it often and also think that it may be more geared towards people who live out of town and can't frequent The Cellar as much as they would like.

As far as price is concerned. It would more than likely be more if it were a big show providing the musicians would agree to it.

Would you be able to save the file or burn it to CD? In that case ten bucks would be a bargain.

Personally, I would not be interested in video. I think, also, that shooting video would be disruptive for people that actually showed up at the gig.

I think at this point you will not be able to download and burn the link however if that is a common desire of people then we can look at making that available but as you said $10 would be a bargain and I would have to raise the price for sure.

Im not looking at this venture as a money maker per se. Im thinking of it as an extra revenue source for The Cellar and also a way to generate more money in order to pay the musicians. There are a lot of jazz fans around the province and the world for that matter than would love to come to the club but can't because of geographic restrictions and I thought this might be a way for these people to be a part of what goes on at the club.

I think this is a great idea, but you need to do it web-cam style. One over top of the stage, one on the bar, one in Cory's office... etc...

With free podcasts and filesharing and being able to buy legit music for less - if you don't offer at least a decent but less than CD quality MP3 that they can have to burn to CD or use on their iPod - I can't imagine too many people using it.

I also agree with Brian that I would not be interested in video. To do it very well would be a distracting and expensive venture as well.

Given the option of buying a cd in the area of $15+ dollars or listening to a few sets of music recorded in lesser quality for a few hours for $10 dollars I know I would rather have the CD. If you made the concert available to download for $10 I'm sure more people would use it however not enough to have to worry about piracy.
