I bought the Pat Coleman-Bob Murphy Quartet's 1996 CD, Come Rain or Come Shine, after reading about it in a recent Magic Flute newsletter and listening to a couple of sample tracks at the distributor's Web site.

This CD will be old news to some, having been out a few years, but I'm enjoying it so much that I wanted to bring it to the attention of those who aren't aware of it.

As well as Coleman on guitar and Murphy on Hammond B3, it features John Gross on tenor sax and Buff Allen on drums.

Tunes include Alone Together, Horace Silver's Peace, Benny Golson's Stablemates, Soul Eyes, the title track and Jimmy Rowles' Drinking and Driving 502 Blues.

The tunes are great and the musicians are too. Murphy, especially, is amazing. In short, the CD is a joy to listen to.

If you like the Ross Taggart Quartet's Thankfully CD, I think you'll like this one too.

Right on bverkerk! I bought that CD when it first came out and I remember thinking at the time that it was as good or better than 90% of the major label stuff coming out at that time.Listening to it today ,my opinion hasn't changed. The fact that these guys aren't on Verve or some other major is more evidence that the universe is seriously unbalanced.

That CD is an insidious sleeper that continually rewards more listening.
B3 has the same musical longevity, I think.
If you want to get another blast, Coleman's new album (and it's about time) is called Blue Comedy and we'll be releasing it in the new year - although I do have a few preview copies already if anyone is interested.
