Live from CBC Studio 1... the TD-Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival kicks off Friday June 23 with Vancouver vocalist Karin Plato's quintet playing before a live audience in the big CBC music studio, which we turn into a little club for the festival. Karin's band includes Lou Mastroianni playing keyboards, Rod Murray playing trombone, Paul Rushka on bass and Nino DiPasquale on drums.
Saturday it's clarinettist James Danderfer's group, including Brad Turner at the piano, Sean Cronin on bass, Joe Poole on drums, and featuring the pride of Powell River, Don Thompson, playing vibes.
There are two sets each day -- at noon and again at one p.m. Admission is free but get there early. The lineup starts at the Studio 1 door at the corner of Hamilton and Georgia Streets in downtown Vancouver. We'll be recording the music, and playing highlights on Hot Air, Saturday June 24 at 5:05 pm; 6:05 pm mountain time.
