Just wondering if anyone has heard CBC's recording of last January's Sax Summit, released this month on CD, and what they thought of it.
I am interested, but haven't heard it and don't want to buy it on spec.

Buy it, you might just like it. I don't even half mind it myself.

hahahaha... I was going to say something about this....
bverkerk, the CD is BURNING! Everybody plays their asses off, from the rhythm section (with the nicest recorded drum sound I've ever heard CBC get) to all the saxophonists, especially Mr. Ryga here...

I’d like to publically apologize to Phil Dwyer for ranting against his project when it was first announced on this site. I was a fool and a jerk to take an easy shot at somebody I didn’t know.
Phil, now after just having spent a week on the road with you, I know that the CBC was wise to have supported you regardless of your idea being good or bad, fair or unfair, well-thought-out or spur-of-the-moment, because you are a great musician.
To look to people like you for projects is exactly what I think they should be doing. Way to go CBC. It just so happens that your project was a great idea and an excellent sampling of Canada’s saxophonists. And it sounds great! Way to go Phil.
Please accept my apology,
Dave Robbins

Dave,
Thanks for your posting, and apology. Certainly I accept it, and I also have high regard for your musicianship. With regard to the Sax Summit let me just say a couple of things. First I would like to clarify where the idea for this project originated. It was a CBC producer who approached me with the idea, so I can take no credit for dreaming it up. As far as the lineup goes, I was given a budget for a certain number of players, and a mandate for regional representation. Obviously this meant that some fantastic saxophone players were not involved. In fact I told the CBC that we could do this every year with different players, and it would be a while before we ran out. In any case the musicians who did participate in the project all did an amazing job with minimal rehearsal. I was extremely grateful for the beautiful attitude and musicianship with which everyone approached the task at hand. It is my sincere hope that the success of the Sax Summit, with its concert,cd,radio, and television components, will help to raise the profile of this music, and thereby benefit all of the great musicians in this country.
Thanks again for you letter Dave, I look forward to playing with you in the future.
Phil Dwyer
