Is it just me, or does Dave Say have one of the finest Tenor tones that you could ever hear? He is a great player (as we all know) and man, what a tone! His ideas are very original and when he turns it on, watch out!! dave goes to the top of my list when I think "tenor Sax"........

No it's not just you , Dave is a fabulous player with a lot of depth to his style , and very underappreciated( except by his fellow musicians). I saw him one time with Mike Allen's Jazz Ascendants and found that I was more deeply affected by his work than by Mike's ,(sorry Mike, I dig ya but it's true) even though Mike probably has a slight edge on Dave, technique-wise.Dave plays so many different kinds of gigs, Funk , blues, pop etc., I think his playing aquires more depth and nuance from those influences, in the manner of the classic"old school" tenors, and it just knocks me out.I play alto in the section with Dave in the Douglas College rehearsal band, so I get to hear him play a lot, and it's always a treat.
