I thought this might interest some of you,
About a year ago I was involved in a collaboration between rap artist K-OS and the CBC Radio Orchestra.
Kheaven (K-OS) wrote the song, guitarist Russ Klyne and myself worked on the arrangement together and I orchestrated it for the Orchestra (plus K-OS's band). That is: 14 violins, 4 violas, 4 cellos, 2 double basses, trumpet, nylon string guitar, piano/keyboards, tablas, drums and DJ.
Among local jazz greats you get to hear the incredible Chris Gestrin create magic on piano/keyboards and the amazing Brad Turner play a gorgeous flugel solo. The K-OS band (with the very talented guitarist Russ Klyne at the helm) do a great job laying down the groove.
The results are in and you can check out the resulting documentary on CBC TV.
To say it was a unique experience would be an understatement!
K-OS and the CBC Radio Orchestra
Two Musical Worlds Collide
A Music Documentary on CBC Television
"OPENING NIGHT" Thursday Feb. 2 @ 9 pm
and on "ZED REAL" Tuesday Feb. 7 @ 11:25 pm
All the best, see you around,
Bill Coon
